Behind The Spyder Platform PCMS
The INEX Approach — Smarter Design, Better Results
Founded on a simple idea — build a better PCMS. One that solves everyday field problems, lowers life-cycle costs, and eliminates the frustrations crews deal with on conventional message boards. Every design decision follows that purpose.
Where It Started
Message Boards, Field Engineered
INEX (Information Exchange Network, Inc.) is a veteran-owned manufacturer of portable changeable message signs based in El Reno, Oklahoma. The company designs, engineers, and builds the Spyder Platform PCMS — a full-size, full-matrix message board engineered to eliminate the recurring failures and hidden costs that define conventional equipment.
The design started by listening to the people who deploy and maintain PCMS units every day. Consistent feedback revealed the same problems: stolen batteries and tires, boards tipping over in wind, collisions from equipment that couldn’t be placed far enough from traffic, and power systems that failed when they were needed most. From that field insight, INEX set out to redesign the platform around theft elimination, stability, crew safety, and lower life-cycle costs.
Experience Formed Focus
The INEX Perspective
INEX founder Rusty Latenser served nearly two decades as a USAF and USAFR fighter pilot, followed by years as a commercial airline pilot, before establishing the company in 1994. That background — precision engineering, zero tolerance for failure — drives how INEX approaches PCMS design and manufacturing.
With combined experience across manufacturing, software, metallurgy, and field operations, the team operates on a single principle: lower the total life-cycle cost of owning and operating portable changeable message signs. That means every design decision accounts for operations and maintenance — not just acquisition price.
INEX doesn’t imitate conventional message board designs or chase surface-level metrics. Every product is developed to reduce part counts, simplify servicing, and eliminate the recurring field costs that conventional equipment generates. The result is a manufacturer focused on long-term field value — not trends.
Our Vision
The foundation of INEX is minimizing Total Life Cycle Cost—acquisition, operation, and maintenance—in every product we build. The goal is to help clients operate more efficiently and protect profitability over time. That focus guides every decision the company makes.
Our Mission
INEX’s mission is to eliminate waste in the field—especially in labor hours—by designing equipment and systems that improve operational efficiency. The team studies the business processes behind equipment use and builds with intent: fewer steps, fewer parts, fewer problems.
Products & Services
Every product and service is developed with a single goal: lower the total cost of operation and maintenance. That begins by listening to the people who use the equipment and identifying where time, labor, and cost are lost.
The team studies labor hours across deployment, operation, and upkeep—looking for small efficiencies that add up in the field. They avoid unnecessary complexity, reduce component counts, and rely on off-the-shelf parts whenever possible to simplify long-term service.
The result isn’t another variation—it’s a deliberate departure from the habits that drive cost without adding value.
Operations
Manufacturing and support operate just outside the Oklahoma City metro area, with direct highway access that enables efficient nationwide shipping. As a veteran-owned business, INEX applies precision, reliability, and clear execution across every stage of its work.
Core Direction
Our Guiding Principles
A company’s direction is best understood through the principles that guide its decisions. These aren’t general statements—they reflect how INEX approaches every aspect of its work.
From product development to client support, the goal is the same: operate with focus, consistency, and purpose. What follows isn’t a philosophy—it’s a practical outline of how INEX thinks and works.

Field Results
What Our Approach Delivers
Advanced Stability
Maintains a stable platform footprint that resists movement, vibration, and wind while allowing safer placement options across varied conditions.
Theft Prevention
Eliminates exposed hardware and removable parts that typically disappear on jobsites, preventing loss and preserving equipment integrity during deployment.
Faster Deployment
Reduces the steps required for setup and positioning, allowing crews to place equipment quickly and limit their time near active traffic.
Lower Operating Cost
Lowers long-term expenses by cutting labor hours, reducing service visits, and limiting part replacements across the equipment’s service life.
